Three (3) New Single Family Residences

The Housing Our Heroes project involved the construction of 3 new single-family homes on a plot of vacant land located on Sycamore Lane in Central Islip, Suffolk County. The land was donated to Concern for Independent Living, the project Sponsor, by the County of Suffolk on October 30, 2015. The project will include 3 family units, totaling 15 beds, and will provide permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans and their families. All plumbing, electric, and HVAC systems are high efficiency systems. The buildings conform with the EPA ENERGY STAR New Homes version 3.0 and Water Sense Certifications. All homes are 100% handicapped accessible.
Residence for Veterans

Ground up new construction of a new 4,200 S.F. residence for Veterans. The residence will be the first Department of Energy, Zero Energy Ready Home, that will be built by students of United Way of Long Island’s Vetsbuild and Youth Build programs.
48 Unit Apartment Building

Ground up new construction of 48 affordable apartment units for low to moderate income Seniors (62+) and Individuals with developmental disabilities to be located within ACLD’s campus.
New Single Family Residence

Ground up construction of a new single family (HOPWA) residence. Project was designed utilizing sustainable materials and implementing renewable energy. Structure was designed to comply with Energy Star 3 requirements and reach Net Zero. House was named the Grand Winner in the US Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Innovative Housing Award in September 2016.
